Held at Western Connecticut State University this past February, the festival is an annual event attended by more than 1,000 students and faculty from colleges across the Northeast.

Theatre Students Perform Off-Broadway in Eastern's NYC Showcase
Brand-new graduates and select students from the theatre program at Eastern Connecticut State University brought their skills to New York City for the program's annual NYC Showcase. On May 21-22 at the Producers' Club Crown Theatre, 13 students (some of them now alumni) acted or worked behind the scenes in "Scenes, Songs, and Monologues 2017." Directed by Jerry Winters, the production was a compilation of short works, including contemporary and classical texts, original dance and songs from Broadway musicals.

"Hamlet" for Kids, a Drama Society Production
The Drama Society at Eastern Connecticut State University performed its first-ever children's theatre production on March 25 with a kid-friendly version of Shakespeare's "Hamlet." Originally adapted by playwright Kyra Baldwin, "Hamlet" (for kids) was directed by club president Lucy Shea. Two performances occurred for all-ages crowds in the Delmonte Studio Theatre of Eastern's Fine Arts Instructional Center.

"Two Gentlemen of Verona" Enlivens Eastern
A talented cast and crew of Eastern Connecticut State University students recently performed in "Two Gentlemen of Verona," the second Main Stage production of the 2016-17 academic year. The play was a musical adaptation of Shakespeare's early comedy about young people exploring love, friendship and the temptations of city life. It ran from Feb. 23 to March 5.

Eastern Connecticut State University Congratulates the Undergraduate Class of 2017
Eastern Connecticut State University's annual graduation ceremony was held at the XL Center in Hartford on May 16, with more than 12,000 family members and friends cheering on their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, as 1,180 undergraduates and 58 graduate students received their diplomas.

Thirteen Eastern Connecticut State University students recently attended the Region I Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT, where they attended theatre workshops and competed in acting and design competitions. Scholarship Reception Brings Donors and Students Together
Eastern Connecticut State University recently hosted its annual Scholarship Reception in the Fine Arts Instructional Center. The event brought together major ECSU Foundation scholarship donors and their respective student-recipients. This year students were awarded scholarships, totaling more than $600,000 in financial aid to students of all backgrounds and academic majors.

"Pedro, The Great Pretender" Opens the Proscenium Theatre at Eastern
November 2016 will go down in history for the Theatre Program at Eastern Connecticut State University, as the program's first major production in the Proscenium Theatre premiered. Situated in the new Fine Arts Instructional Center, "Cervantes' Pedro, The Great Pretender" christened the Proscenium Theatre from Nov. 8 to 13.

Eastern Students Lead Arts Institute for Local High Schoolers
Eastern Connecticut State University hosted a three-week Summer Arts Institute from July 11 to 28. The program invited rising juniors and seniors from Windham High School and Arts at the Capitol Theatre (ACT) to participate in a college course free of charge, including the opportunity to gain college credit.

Eastern Theatre Students Perform at CREATE Conference
More than 250 talented students at Eastern Connecticut State University presented research and creative work at the university's second annual CREATE conference this past April. CREATE stands for Celebrating Research Excellence and Artistic Talent at Eastern, and is the university's premier, academic year-end showcase. At the culminating event, students of all majors presented professional posters, live music, dance performances, artwork, photography, documentaries and panel discussions.
